Sparse songs become impressive sandstorms
The singer and instrumentalist Noura Mint Seymali transforms the traditional music of Mauritania into driving desert blues. Traditional instruments such as the ardine (a nine-sided harp played only by women) or the tiditine (long-necked lute) are complemented by drums, bass, guitar and Seymali's impressive voice. Arabic melodies are mixed with musical elements from Africa and psychedelic rock. Sparse songs become impressive sandstorms.
