SUITCASE THEATRE - THEATRE SUITCASE

From the outside, it looks like a perfectly ordinary suitcase. But hidden inside is a whole world of puppet theatre. As soon as the child playing with it opens the lid, stories emerge, just waiting to be told. No sooner is a door drawn than characters and creatures stroll out and captivate us. The suitcase can be opened anywhere: in the living room, in the classroom, at a child’s birthday party – simply anywhere!

From the outside, it looks like a perfectly ordinary suitcase. But hidden inside is a whole world of puppet theatre. No sooner has the player opened the lid than stories emerge, just waiting to be told. No sooner has the player drawn a door than characters and creatures stroll out and captivate us.

In this suitcase workshop, we’ll turn a suitcase you’ve brought along into a theatre case. We’ll fit out a performance area and paint the case with blackboard paint so that the stage sets can later be drawn individually for each story using chalk. Participants will make simple puppets and be introduced to the art of puppetry.

Over the first two sessions, we’ll transform the suitcase into a theatre case. Under expert guidance, we’ll build, hammer, saw and glue. By the third evening at the latest, the puppets for our case will have been created. Whether these are soft toys, hand-sewn puppets, wooden stick puppets or clay figures depends entirely on the story and the case-builders. The final evening is entirely devoted to ‘puppetry’. We’ll learn the basics and some tricks, and the piece we’ve rehearsed might even get to celebrate its premiere in the spotlight.
