THE SNOWFLAKE COLLECTOR
Based on the picture book of the same name by Robert Schneider
America in 1870: Wilson Bentley lives on a farm in the middle of the prairie with his older brother and his parents. The two boys are expected to help their parents with the work and become good farmers. This leads to conflict, as Wilson is a dreamy boy who spends a lot of time thinking and is fascinated by the small things in the world: the peculiarities of leaves, stones and snow crystals, which particularly captivate him.
This staged narrative draws its power from simple objects, which leave plenty of scope for the audience’s imagination. The minimalist set design reinforces the intensity and urgency with which young Wilson Bentley is determined to do what he believes is important.
The musical framework and accompaniment by Armon Stecher make this production something special.
Concept, design, narration and performance: Ursula Bienz
Music: Armon Stecher, clarinet
The production was supported by the Giuseppe Kaiser Foundation.
