Redefining School – The Education System in the Age of AI

History Talk at the Landesmuseum

Zurich has long made its mark on the history of education thanks to Pestalozzi. But, of course, this story is never-ending. Technological turning points, in particular, are constantly redefining what should still be taught in schools – and what additional skills are required. We therefore ask: How have social change and the school system repeatedly influenced one another? And is another fundamental shift on the horizon? In an age of knowledge constantly available on the World Wide Web, with calculators, automatic spell-checkers and AI, what should schools actually still be teaching? What would truly benefit us – as individuals, but also as a society?

This will be discussed by the educational historian Michael Geiss, Head of the Research Centre for Education and Digital Transformation at the Zurich University of Teacher Education, and Marina Weisband, a psychologist specialising in education in the digital society.

Moderator: Yves Bossart
