Experimental research in hydraulic engineering and water resources engineering

How do we protect ourselves from flooding? How can rivers be managed in a way that is close to nature, or how can hydroelectric power stations be optimised? At the Research Institute for Hydraulic Engineering, Hydrology and Glaciology (VAW), researchers are seeking answers using impressive models and state-of-the-art measurement technology. The guided tour offers an insight into the test hall: discover how findings from the laboratory help to make hydraulic engineering projects in Switzerland and around the world safer, more sustainable and more efficient.

As part of the programme accompanying the exhibition ‘Models – Shaping Knowledge’ at extract, this visit takes you to a place where scientific models are still used today in research and teaching.
