‘Wachs’ – a reading at the Moulage Museum with Nina Kunz
Nina Kunz will read from her novel *Wachs* and, in conversation with Sabina Carraro, shed light on the history of anatomical wax models. This will be followed by an opportunity to visit the museum.
An event organised in collaboration with the exhibition ‘Models – Shaping Knowledge’ at extract (www.extract.ethz.ch).
Christine Wunnicke’s historical novel ‘Wachs’ is set in 18th-century France. It centres on two extraordinary women: Marie Biheron, who dissects corpses and uses them to create highly detailed wax models, and Madeleine Basseporte, who draws plants and flowers with great precision. Their shared enthusiasm for science and meticulous observation brings them together – and they fall in love.
Nina Kunz will read selected passages from the novel. In conversation with Sabina Carraro, insights will be provided into the history and technique of wax modelling. Afterwards, there will be an opportunity to view wax models from the moulage collection.
