‘Zurich Reads’: zwischentext – heimat/home 2.0

The anniversary issue of the literary magazine ‘zwischentext’ is dedicated to the theme ‘heimat/home 2.0’.

Together with the authors Andrea Rea Arežina, Nida Temaj and Sara Kišević, we explore the question of what ‘home’ can still mean today: how can a concept that is traditionally anchored in geography be reimagined? What remains when ‘heimat’ can no longer be held onto, but merely appears? Performative elements combine with personal texts to form a polyphonic exploration of belonging, identity and the limits of the concept of ‘heimat’.

In collaboration with ‘zwischentext’, a (post-)migrant, multilingual and interdisciplinary Zurich-based collective at the intersection of literature, art and society

Presenter: Mërgim Gutaj

Andrea Rea Arežina was born in Zurich. She studied at the Swiss and German Literature Institute. And she doesn’t like short biographies.

Nida Temaj (1998) was born in Kosovo, grew up in Berlin and now lives in Switzerland. Shaped by migration, violence and fragmented memory, she writes from the in-between. In her writing, she explores themes of origin, belonging, loss and mental health. She is interested in the stories people tell about themselves, the experiences that defy clear expression, and the traces the past leaves behind in bodies, relationships and memories.

Sara Kišević (1999) works in the arts and culture sector in Zurich. After studying art history and comparative/world literature, she has worked in contemporary art, cultural communication and exhibition management, whilst continually returning to writing.
Her interests centre on questions of language, identity and (non-)belonging. She explores how images and narratives shape our understanding of ourselves and the worlds in which we live. She moves between different languages and cultural contexts and is particularly interested in the spaces where the personal and the collective intersect, and where literature becomes a means of continually renegotiating self-positioning, connection and home.

Mërgims Gutaj was born in Gjakovë, Kosova, in 1992 and now lives in Zurich. His main profession is as a lawyer and he is a PhD candidate in the field of democracy research. In his spare time, he is co-editor of the multilingual art and literature collective zwischentext, and alongside this he writes his own texts. In between, he is working on ‘kosova aesthetics’, a photographic collection that breaks with Western-influenced notions of aesthetics.
