Parents and Children: On Caring and Letting Go

The relationship between parents and children changes continuously throughout life: care and dependence gradually give way to independence, separation and new forms of closeness. Every stage of life brings its own challenges for both sides. This presentation explores how parent-child relationships develop from childhood through to adulthood, and how trust, a sense of belonging and independence interact. It focuses on issues of emotional closeness, upbringing, letting go and the changing roles within the family as children grow up and become adults.
