Safeguarding Credibility: Ethics in Modern Journalism

Journalistic ethics begin with binding standards: industry codes, editorial codes of conduct and legal frameworks such as the protection of privacy form the foundation. In addition, experience-based practices shape day-to-day professional life – verifying sources, protecting informants, weighing up the public interest, or addressing the question of how to deal with suffering and hardship, for example in wars or crises. Finally, individual questions arise: where does reporting end and activism begin? And is opinion journalism still journalism – or has it already become propaganda?
