Get Out
Jordan Peele, USA 2017
NOCTURNE: Clever, funny and disturbing: Jordan Peele's brilliant adaptation of GUESS WHO'S COMING TO DINNER is one of the most thrilling horror films of recent years.
After five months of dating, Chris (Daniel Kaluuya) is finally supposed to meet the parents of his girlfriend Rose (Allison Williams). So they decide to spend the weekend together at Rose's parents' house. However, Chris is worried that Rose has not yet told her family that her new boyfriend is black. At their first meeting, however, he is received very warmly and the parents take their potential son-in-law to their hearts without hesitation. Nevertheless, an uneasy feeling remains. Because behind the emphatically liberal façade, something doesn't seem to be right.
This eerie and bitterly evil low-budget thriller builds up its tension slowly and manages to surprise again and again right to the end with its intelligent twists and turns. GET OUT is THE film of the American present and relentlessly exposes the subliminal racism of the liberal affluent society. James Baldwin would certainly have been thrilled by Daniel Kaluuya's acting and the way Peele stages the family reunion as a horror story. That's why we're combining the comedy GUESS WHO'S COMING TO DINNER with Jordan Peele's modern horror classic in the double feature "Meet the Parents".
- Fri 25. 10. Double feature "Meet the Parents" with GUESS WHO'S COMING TO DINNER at 8.00 pm
