Children's cinema: Mikrokosmos - The People of the Grasses

On a small patch of meadow, this documentary shows a fascinating microcosm full of different insects that prove themselves to be great trick artists in front of the camera.

A short introduction (spoken in French) can be heard at the beginning as we slowly approach the patch of meadow: "Early in the morning on a meadow, somewhere on this earth. But in this meadow hides another world, big as a planet. Wild grasses become impenetrable jungles, stones grow into mountains, and even the smallest waterhole turns into an ocean. The passage of time takes on other dimensions. An hour becomes a day, a day becomes a season, and a season lasts as long as a lifetime. But shush, be very quiet! That's the only way we can enter this world and listen to its sounds." The camera then dives into the sea of grasses and, without any commentary but with all the more impressive sound effects, shows the fascinating everyday life of insects up close: "A new generation of film stars is ready for Mr. DeMille's close-ups.
