Videoex Festival 2024: CH focus: Pauline Julier

Pauline Julier's central theme is the complexity of our relationship with the world, the connections between people and their (natural) environment. Human history is inextricably intertwined with the history of nature. This becomes visible not least in the concept of the Anthropocene - a new geological age in which humans have left their mark on the environment everywhere. The winner of the Swiss Art Award 2021 and 2010 approaches her themes scientifically and artistically, documentary and fictional at the same time. She sees the multi-perspective view as a strength of cinema and pleads for a search for new perspectives. At the same time, she questions how we think about and depict nature. This is also where her "volcanic paradox" comes into play - by destroying, the volcano simultaneously preserves, something that can also be said about the (moving) image.
