Live music in February

February is short, but amazingly packed with good music. Among them are local greats and US greats as well as old and not-so-old heroes from Austria.

Voodoo Jürgens

"Heite grob ma Tote aus" (today we dig up the dead), it says right at the beginning of the month at the Rote Fabrik. Voodoo Jürgens is the Viennese original that combines all the images of scurrility and sympathy for our neighbouring country. With stories about outsiders, losers - and themselves.

Intimspray

What Grauzone are for German-speaking Switzerland, Intimspray are for Austria: one of the most important bands of the new wave and punk era of the 80s, just as hitworthy as short-lived. The only thing is that the retro hype that arose around the Bernese makers of "Eisbär" in the last decade somehow failed to materialise with Intimspray. But that doesn't matter: as long as it stays that way, you can see the band, which has only recently started performing together again, on small stages like El Lokal.

The Black Angels

Psychedelic rock without frills, but with lots of concentric circles, that's the Black Angels. The group from Austin has just released their sixth album in their almost 20-year band history and will be making a guest appearance at the Dynamo on their European tour.

Taxi Kebab

You won't find many songs by the French-Moroccan duo Taxi Kebab on the internet. But what you do find justifies comparisons with the grand masters of Arab-European psychedelia-fusion Acid Arab. At Exil, you can experience the force of this techno-krautrock experiment for yourself.

Nik Bärtsch & Tania Giannouli

Those who want to take it a little easier this Thursday should head to Moods. Nik Bärtsch and Tania Giannouli will be performing there. On this evening, the Zurich zen jazz pianist ventures out of his ancestral environment in exile and meets his piano colleague, who is known for elegiac and at the same time complex compositions. "Music that invites you to dream of eternity" is written at Moods.
