Live music in May

Walls of guitars and tender ballads, indie pop and Balkan fire: welcome to the musical month of May.

Peach Tinted

You could almost still call Peach Tinted newcomers. After all, the Austrian band's stop at the Brauerei Oerlikon is part of the first European tour of the duo, which was founded in 2019. And their sound is also very aptly described as "refreshing": Electronic-tinged indie pop between slackerism and big emotions. More of it with pleasure!

Goran Bregovic & his Wedding & Funeral Band

In the former Yugoslavia, Goran Bregovic was one of the best-known figures in the rock scene. But he became internationally known with the film music he contributed to Emir Kusturica's cult films. Bregovic not only heats up with the traditional, energetic celebration music of the Balkans, he also reinterprets classical folk songs from all directions in this energetic style. Will he manage to bring the Kongresshaus to the boil as well?

Voice Actor

Noa Kurzweil's debut album is four and a half hours long, which alone makes it a difficult thicket to penetrate. Her stage name Voice Actor, however, makes it clear what arc the work spans: These are voices, sometimes as sampled snippets of voice messages, sometimes as brooding lines of poetry floating over ambient sound. One can imagine a screening of these pieces as a performance rather than a concert. It thus fits wonderfully into the Schauspielhaus.

Uncle Acid & The Deadbeats

Listening to Uncle Acid & The Deadbeats is like travelling back twenty years. To the time when stoner rock saved itself into the new millennium with the great albums of Queens Of The Stone Age and reinvented itself. Or is it rather 50 years back to the heyday of Black Sabbath? Wherever the time machine lands, the Brits deliver: Hard boards, dark tunes and the everlasting wall of guitars, everything is in its place. In this case, at the Plaza.

Jungstötter

The first time I heard Fabian Altstötter sing, it was clear to me that his voice would take him far. He was 17 or 18 at the time and was playing with his band Sizarr in a small shop in the area where we both grew up. Sizarr were to become Germany's indie figureheads a few years later, and after just two albums they went their separate ways again. He has just released his second album under the name Jungstötter: a sparklingly melancholic work between pop and melancholy, which he will present at Bogen F.

Sean Nicholas Savage

The first time I heard a piece by Sean Nicholas Savage, it immediately landed on my aperitif playlist. These tender ballads, at once deeply heartbreaking and light-hearted, are as much a match for a sun-drenched afternoon as the iced drink in your hand. Almost every year, he graces Club Zukunft or Bar 3000 with his music. This time, his concert takes place in the Waxy Bar, one floor up.
