Live music in September

Sometimes heat, sometimes rain ... The concert programme in September is as ambivalent as the current weather: light, shade, pop and a lot of fiddling around.

Feist

It seems like a lifetime ago when Leslie Feist was practically everywhere. As a member of the Canadian supergroup Broken Social Scene, as a guest on the albums of the Norwegian soft-spoken Kings Of Convenience, in the Apple commercials with her big breakthrough "1,2,3,4". Hardly any artist in the 2000s combined mass taste and indie connoisseurship like Feist. And then there was James Blake's version of "Limit To Your Love" and the Boys Noize remix of "My Moon My Man", which transposed Feist's acoustic œuvre into the electronic realm. With a co-production with Theater Spektakel on her new album "Multitudes", she is now opening up to further worlds.

Arab Strap

It is a strange world into which Arab Strap take their listeners: One of bleak drunkenness, explicit sexual innuendo and life's eternal downfalls. All delivered with a Scottish accent and backed up with guitars: what could be more entertaining on a Sunday evening in September than this concert at El Lokal?

Squid

This band from Brighton creates a wonderful jumble of rhythms, instruments and styles. Is it post punk, math rock, progressive jazz? Are there horns alongside the guitars and synthesizers? Rarely has a band's debut album sounded so strangely familiar and at the same time completely new as "Bright Green Field" by Squid 2021. At the Mascotte, they present the further development of their sound in the form of the second album "O Monolith".

Benjamin Clementine

The odes that Benjamin Clementine sends out into the world are achingly beautiful. Where the depth comes from that is in them can be easily guessed by looking at Clementine's biography: When his relationship and living arrangements broke down when he was 19, he fled London for Paris, where he struggled for several years, sometimes without shelter. One day, the street musician was discovered by a record company and within a very short time became an award-winning star. Ten years have passed since then, Clementine now lives in London again and comes to Kaufleuten with his grandiose soul voice.

One of the most interesting musicians of our time will return to the stages of Europe in September 2023: Benjamin Clementine's mixture of passionate piano ...

Sunn O))))

"Power Ambient" is what Sunn O))) call the music they make. You could also say that they are one of the earliest and most influential drone bands. The group from Seattle has a rather complicated name (but it can be easily pronounced as "Sun"), but the concept of their music is all the more minimalist for it: standing walls of guitars that waft through the atmosphere for minutes on end. Not much more, not much less. And that's precisely why it's worth watching this spectacle in the Rote Fabrik.

OKWOK & Momotrope

Two very exciting acts are coming to Moods this evening as part of the ZKB Jazz Prize. OKWOK from Bern play rhythmically adept contemporary jazz that is sometimes oriented towards hip-hop beats. The Zurich group Momotrope, on the other hand, moves into more spherical worlds of ambient and electronica. Interesting not only for jazz fans.
