"We dance cumbia before we go on stage"

The brothers Georg and Christoph Kiss interpret jazz as Okvsho in a fresh, free and contemporary way that is otherwise only known from London or LA.

I think you'll have to explain that to us!

We grew up in district 7. Akira is about the same age as us and grew up in District 8. We didn't know each other personally back then, but really everyone who is about the same age as us and comes from Zurich knows this track. We recorded a track called "Pasitos Jaguari" with him for the new album. As you can hear, he's changed quite a bit over the last ten years and he and we would probably distance ourselves from the lyrics to some extent by now, but it's definitely a Zurich classic and a contemporary document.

What's the best moment of an Okvsho concert?

For us, it's probably those initially frightening moments when something unique and unforeseen happens during improvisation and everyone still knows what to do next. That's magic, that's wizardry at work. Readers will soon have the chance to find out for themselves.

For those who have read this far, you can now finally find out: Why Okvsho?

The name was created at a time when we regularly changed our artist name on Soundcloud. Back then, it was fashionable to write out U's and A's as V's. The fact that we were called Okvsho (pronounced "Okusho") when our first EP was released on Boyoom Connective was a coincidence. So the name doesn't really have much significance. However, it has the advantage that it has a certain visual symmetry and we keep hearing new and interesting pronunciations - for example "Okay vs. Ho", "Ok for Sho" or "Okfshow"...

Okvsho will be performing on Tuesday, 30 April at 19:30 in the Zentralwäscherei in Zurich.
