Dance Highlights in December

These monthly highlights from the Zurich dance scene are not to be missed:

(In)finite life

What happens when we die? As part of Theaterfunken, Tabea Martin presents Forever, the second part of her trilogy around the theme of transience and death. As inspiration for her piece, the choreographer spoke with children about their ideas of life after death. Forever breaks with the taboo and offers space to talk about mortality, life and death in a light-hearted way. The dance piece is aimed at everyone from the age of 8.

Dance of transience

In the final piece of the trilogy, Tabea Martin reflects human transience. In Nothing left, the choreographer shows the effects of death on the bereaved. The dancers look at a loved one who has died and express their grief through movement. Despite the gravity of the subject matter, moments of pure joie de vivre are by no means missing. Presented in its entirety for the first time at the Kurtheater Baden, this trilogy is not to be missed.

Encounters of bodies

Started as a support group in virtual space during the pandemic, Chænelings was created by and with Kiran Kumãr, Mamela Nyamza and Lucie Tuma. In the piece, the three dancers deal with occult and medial practices and open the space for encounters between present and absent bodies. The focus is on the human body's ability to mutate and heal. A highly topical subject that concerns us all.

Manipulation through standards

Our decisions are controlled - but by what? The norms of a society or culture suppress personal freedoms and choices. The compulsion to conform to a certain norm overshadows individual desires. In Under Pressure, the La Verità Dance Company explores precisely such questions. No one should miss this commentary on the suppression of personal choices.
