OPEN-AIR CINEMA IN THE CITY OF ZURICH

15. June - 9 July | Courtyard Cinema at the Landesmuseum Zurich

Zurich's National Museum is celebrating its 125th anniversary. One more reason to indulge in film in front of the historical backdrop of the inner courtyard of the Landesmuseum. There are film gems from the current and past cinema years to be seen. A special feature of the programme is certainly the "Zueri Shorts", which give an insight into the range of Zurich's short film production. The restaurant and bar are open daily from 10 am to midnight, even without a cinema ticket.

29. June - 1 July | Openair-Kino Zollhaus

Cinema in Zurich probably doesn't get any higher than this: For three cinema nights, projections will float above the tracks of Zurich's main railway station on the roof of the "Zollhaus". Initiators are the Kalkbreite cooperative and the Riffraff cinema in cooperation with The Ones We Love, a platform where everyone can vote for a film. The audience voted for "The Grand Budapest Hotel", "Parasite" and "Everything Everywhere All at Once". More

 

29. June - 1 July | Sofaopenairkino Wipkingen

There are about 200 seats - this year's screenings are "Neighbours" (Mano Khalil), "What do we do with the Shadows" (Taika Waititi, Jemaine Clement) and "Thousend Years of Longing" (George Miller). More

 

5. - 8 July | Open-Air Cinema at Spinnereiplatz

The first open-air cinema for the Greencity and Manegg neighbourhood in 2022 was so well received that it will be continued this summer: Oriental mezze will be served for "Taxi Teheran", cinnamon buns for the Danish film "Drunk" and hot dogs for "Shaun the Sheep" on Saturday. Admission is free - just bring your own chair. More

 

12. - 30 July | Filmfluss

Filmfluss - film nights in Zurich's oldest riverside swimming pool, the Badi Unterer Letten. The programme will be published on 20 June! ¼ of the seats are covered - and the cinema opens in all weathers. More

 

14. July - 18 August | Open-Air Cinema Xenix

Another institution that belongs to Zurich's summer like the regular plunge into the Limmat. Under the piece of sky of the Kanzleiareal (in case of bad weather, the film screening takes place in the cinema hall), 17 screenings will be shown, including the French comedy "L'Innocent" by Louis Garel (18 July) and the preview of Aki Kaurismäki's latest film "Fallen Leaves" (8 August). Ridley Scott's "Thelma & Louise" will close the festival. (18.8.).

14. and 15 as well as 21 and 22 July | Röntgenplatz Summer Cinema

This summer cinema in Kreis 5 is the second oldest of its kind in Zurich - only the Rote Fabrik moved the projector outside a year earlier. As always, there is an animated film for children before the main film. The programme includes: "Hunt for the Wilderpeople", "Im Juli", "The Band's Visit" and "Schultze gets the Blues". Collection requested! More

 

20. July - 20 August | Allianz Cinema at the Zürichhorn

The open-air cinema on the eastern shore of the lower lake basin offers a cinema-at-any-weather solution, because those who want to watch and enjoy the gastronomy at the same time can benefit from one of the more than 400 covered seats. For younger cinema fans, there is the Allianz Family Night, where a child-friendly film is shown in German. More

 

29. July | Monolith Open Air

This is where cinema meets architecture. Initiated by the Reformed Church of Zurich, the cinema is created by projecting the film onto the exposed concrete façade of the Andreaskirche in Sihlfeld, which is also known as a monolith due to the cladding of the façade with granite slabs and the absence of windows at eye level. The film "Green Tomatoes" from 1991 will be shown. More

 

4. - 20 August | Dolder Wave Cinema in the Dolder Bad

For fourteen evenings, the wave pool on the Adlisberg will be transformed into an open-air cinema. Chairs and blankets can be rented, and films such as "The Neighbours from Above", "Triangle of Sadness", "Good Luck to You, Leo Grande", but also family-friendly films such as "Asterix and Obelix" or "Lassie" will be shown. More

 

11. - 20 August | Bloom

At Europaplatz, BLOOM shows the hottest works of the current and upcoming cinema season. The programme will be published at the end of June. More

 

18. and 19 August | Cine Club Nord in Oerlikon

In the backdrop of the MFO Park Oerlikon, the Cine Club Nord in cooperation with the GZ Oerlikon will again show two exquisite films: "Last Dance" and "Yuli". More

 

6. July - 31 August | Film am See - open-air cinema at the Rote Fabrik

According to the programme booklet, Dennis Hopper's "Easy Rider" and "Pink Floyd - The Wall" brought the biggest crowds to the Rote Fabrik's open-air cinema in 40 years. This year's programme: "Visages, Villages", the essayisticTour de France by Belgian Nouvelle Vague director legend Agnès Varda and street artist JR, and "Almost Famous", a film with cult status, an ode to rock music, with a great cast.

7. and 8 July | Bäumli Open-Air

Winterthur's Nische cinema is setting up on its "local mountain" again this July for two days - with a cool bar, a magnificent view and, of course, two good films: "EO" (Jerzy Skolimowski, 2022) and "Groundhog Day" (Harold Ramis, 1993). More

 

24. - 26 August and 31 August - 2 September | Cinéma Solaire Winterthur

This open-air cinema runs on solar power from its own production, arrives in bicycle trailers and shows selected film gems in a relaxed atmosphere on the former Sulzerareal. Bring your own seat. On the programme: "L'Innocent", "Swimmers", "Presque", "The Veins of the World", "The Third Murder" and "Wunderschön". More

 

26. - 28 June | Cameo

Deckchairs, gelati and screen fever - for once, the campground becomes an open-air cinema with three films that transport you to visually stunning nature and mystical worlds and space for flaring emotions and reveries: "Les cinq diables" by Frenchwoman Léa Mysius, "Los reyes del mundo" (as a preview) by Colombian filmmaker Laura Mora ("Matar a Jesús") and "Wet Sand" by Swiss-Georgian director Elene Naveriani. In case of bad weather, the open air will take place under the roof right next door. Silent Cinema: Headphones are distributed before the film starts. More

 

29. June - 1 July | Cameo for young people between 16 and 20 years of age

Grab your friends, get your ticket for the films online or come spontaneously and let yourself be surprised by this exclusive film programme. The Cameo Bar will be open for drinks and snacks, and take-away food will be available in the Skills Park on Friday and Saturday until 9 p.m. Please bring a valid ID. admission costs CHF 10 More

 

OPEN-AIR CINEMA IN THE ZURICH REGION

1. June - 26 August | Openair cinema and summer pub Neues Kino Freienstein (Bubikon)

A worthwhile destination for city summer refugees is the Neues Kino Freienstein in the district of Bülach. For a whole eleven weeks, you can experience open-air cinema in the factory courtyard behind the Neues Kino amidst the walls of the old spinning mill and the Blumer foundry. The associated summer pub opens at 6 p.m. each evening. The programme is published weekly. More

 

13. - 15 July | Balti Open Air Cinema, Baltenswil

In Baltenswil, which lies 30 minutes by S-Bahn outside Zurich behind Dietlikon, the films "Operation Fortune", "Elvis" and "Ticket ins Paradies" will flicker across the screen in front of the Schützenhaus on the edge of the village - including a view over Baltenswil. More

 

13. - 15 July | Schöntal Summer cinema in Rikon

Next to the gurgling Töss, small and big stories can be seen on the screen stretched between the circus poles of Circolino Pipistrello. For 20 years! On Thursday the audience must, may, can choose between the Jarmusch films "Night on Eart" and "Down by Law", then on Friday between "The Fat Years Are Over" and "Woman at War". Those weary of making decisions had better come on Saturday, when "Fragile - the Oyster Prince" will be shown. Afterwards there will be dancing! More

 

20. July - 20 August | Coop Open Air Cinema Uster

In the green next to the Buchholz riding arena, 99% of the films shown are in German. Families with big and small children will find what they are looking for and will be happy. The films start in July at around 9.30 p.m. and in August at around 9.15 p.m. More

 

2. - 12 August | Film Nights Rosenmattpark Wädenswil

In the Rosenmattpark, 3 minutes from Wädenswil railway station, the Theater Ticino once again programmes selected arthouse films ranging from melancholy to touching, upbeat to funny. The films are shown in all weathers. More

 

16. August - 3 September | Drive-In Autokino Hinwil

This is where the 60s come alive: make sure you have a car, choose the right film, drive to Hinwil, park the car, stock up on fast food on the spot, switch on the radio, find the frequency, watch - and soon start making out with your passenger. More

 

17. - 19 August | Open-Air Cinema at the Lindenhof, Buchberg

A few kilometres west of Eglisau on the banks of the Rhine is the Lindenhof in Buchberg. Between cattle and beekeeping, fruit trees and vines, a shop and the Simmler family's pub, films can be seen for three evenings under the motto "Kultur bim Buur". More

 

19. and 20 August | Open-Air Cinema Filmpodium Thalwil

At the Seeanlage Farb Thalwil, in front of the blue house next to Portofino/Hafen, bar and grill, coffee and cake, ice cream, popcorn and music tempt visitors from 7.30 p.m. onwards, before "Wild at Heart" flickers across the screen on Friday and "Presque" on Saturday. More

 

18. and 19 August | Open-Air Cinema Erlenbach

At the Schifflände between the lake shore and the night sky, two films will be shown in Erlenbach again this year. The programme was not yet fixed at the time of going to press. More

 

31. August | Open-Air Cinema Kloten

The open-air cinema is organised by the town council and will be set up for one evening on the town square in Kloten. The programme was not yet fixed at the time of going to press. More

 

26. August | Kino am See at the Badi Stäfa

On the last weekend in August, the Kino am See (Cinema on the Lake) takes place at the Badi Stäfa. Programmed by the Open Children's and Youth Work Stäfa, a film programme suitable for children, youths and families can be expected. More

 

7. - 15 July | Cinema Open at Lake Pfäffikon

On nine evenings at the lake in Unterdorf, the Julie offers a combination of live concert and film: Here, the selected films have a clear leaning towards comedy! More

 

9. - 19 August | Kino am See, Pfäffikon

Right on the lakeside, you can see a colourful programme of films ranging from "The Three ? (from 6 years), "Dead Poets Society", "Dirty Dancing" and "Indiana Jones and the Wheel of Destiny". More

 

23. - 25 August | Open-Air Cinema Ritterhaus in Bubikon

Normally the 800-year-old Ritterhaus brings the Middle Ages to life - in August it will be showing films on three consecutive evenings: "Last Dance", "Nobody Has o Know" and "Le Otto Montagne". More
